The International Wheat Information System

E-mail Print PDF

The International Wheat Information System (IWIS) is the wheat implementation of the International Crop Information System (ICIS) which is a database system that provides integrated management of global information on genetic resources and crop cultivars. This includes germplasm pedigrees, field evaluations, structural and functional genomic data (including links to external plant databases) and environmental (GIS) data.

This portal is a collaborative project of the Internation Crop Information System and the Generation Challenge Programme to provide a "one stop shopping" query interface to ICIS information globally on the World Wide Web.

This portal uses special internet communication protocols. One of them is BioMOBY which is used to communicate with remote online data sources (see also the GCP BioMOBY information site).

This networking technology, elaborated within the Generation Challenge Programme, uses special GCP MOBY data types derived from the Generation Challenge Programme domain models and ontology, plus a special software engineering platform to interconnect available data sources.

Query options are available for specialized views, such as the study and view. Begin your search by filling in query strings and/or selecting suitable parameters, then clicking the pertinent query submission button

Each query will initially give a synopsis of the number of hits by data source. You can then choose to view the list of hits. Each entry in the list of hits will generally be a clickable link to the original online resource hosting the data item hit. Thus, this portal is like a kind of "GCP Google" with a bioinformatics attitude!
